General Asbestos Awareness - An Overview

A basic introduction to asbestos associated with buildings and workplaces – for staff who may disturb asbestos as part of their normal work. The course is designed to enable them to do their work safely and prevent unnecessary exposure to asbestos. This course can be tailored to meet the clients requirements be it for maintenance staff or management.

Topics Covered

• Asbestos – its sources, properties and applications, health effects and current trends. HSE video ‘How are you today?’

• The legal requirements relating to asbestos. The Duty Holder (s)

• Asbestos in buildings, products, surveys, risk assessments, registers and management plans.

• Methods of safe working with asbestos materials, appropriate PPE, minor works not requiring a license and disposal of asbestos waste. The management plan, emergency procedures, decontamination / transit routes, air testing and the role of the analyst.
